With its diverse and specific climate, Wangdue Phodrang is home to many exotic and rare animals such as red pandas, tigers, and leopards.

As one of Bhutan’s biggest hidden gems, Jigme Dorji national park is without a doubt a must see. 6. Gasa Tshachus Hot Springs
Known for their miraculous healing powers, Gasa Tschachus’ hot springs are perhaps one of the most incredible natural wonders of Bhutan. The natural steaming water is famous for curing skin diseases, arthritis, ulcers, and even indigestion. Located just 47 kilometers from Punakha, the Gasa hot springs welcomes more than 7000 visitors every winter. Although there are no hotels close by, the Dendup Norzang monastery is right next door so you can make a day trip out of it.
7. Punakha Dzong
As one of the most historic buildings in Bhutan, Punakha Dzong has hosted many momentous Buutanese occasions. As it is the former capital of Bhutan, it is full of history, culture, and tradition. It’s structural beauty is home to golden statues of Buddha, Guru Rinpoche, and the Zhabdrung, dating back as late as the 18th century. The elaborate gold, red, and black carved woods will take your breath away with its structural beauty. Make sure to stop by the utse of the Punakha Dzong to view Bhutan’s most treasured possession - the Rangjung (self-created) Kharsapani.
8. Buddha Dordenma Statue
As Bhutan’s largest city, Thimphu is home to a 169 foot Buddha Dordenma statue. Although this appears on the outside as just one giant statue, on the inside you will find over 125,000 small Buddha statues, making there more Buddha’s than people in Thimphu. Located on the very top of the hill, Buddha Dordenma calmly watches over Thimphu keeping everyone safe and happy.
