Best Time To Visit Nepal
Nepal is a trekker’s wonderland, but the Himalayas aren’t the only reasons to visit this country. Its temples, culture, and wildlife — and yes, its mountains, too — make Nepal a dream destination for all. There are many amazing things to see in this country, but finding your best time to visit Nepal may depend on the season and the activities you’d like to participate in.
Climate and seasons
Autumn
During the months of October and November, travelers can expect clear skies and sunny days. The average temperatures in Kathmandu during this season are 59 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit. This is often the peak travel season for trekkers in the Everest and Annapurna regions. This can make finding accommodations in Kathmandu difficult if not made far in advance. The prices of hotels during this time will also be higher then in the off season.
Winter
From December through March, Nepal becomes very cold in higher elevations, but continues to have clear skies. The average temperatures in Kathmandu during this season are 48 to 61 degrees Fahrenheit. Trekking at lower elevation is a great option during this time, as is visiting the jungles of Chitwan and Bardia.
Spring
The months of March to May are another great time for trekkers to visit the highest peaks in Nepal. The average temperatures in Kathmandu during this season are 61 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit. The warmer weather also brings spring blooms to Nepal, including gorgeous rhododendron blossoms.
Summer
During the months of June through September, monsoon rains keep the trekkers away from Nepal. The average temperature in Kathmandu during this season is about 72 degrees Fahrenheit. What’s more, there are often landslides during this time, and clouds often block the views of the mountains.
Due to the weather, this is often the cheapest time to visit Nepal. If you do choose to go during the summer season, you can look for treks in the areas of Upper Mustang or Nar Phu, where the rain is less intense.
Festivals and holidays
Festivals and holidays offer a great opportunity to see the people and experience the culture of Nepal. There are often parades in the streets during these times, drawing people from all over the country. This may cause travelers to have a harder time finding accommodations (especially cheap accommodations), but the festivals’ vibrant atmosphere just might make this the best time to visit Nepal.
Here are some of the major holidays in Nepal. Many of these holidays don’t have exact dates every year, so we have listed them by the month they most commonly occur in. Make sure to research your particular dates ahead of time.
