10 Most Beautiful Places in Morocco

Morocco is an intriguing and exciting country filled with rich beauty for all! Between the colorful architecture and the stunning diverse mountain, desert and ocean landscapes, there are so many beautiful places in Morocco to explore. We have searched the whole country for you and have narrowed it down to the top 10 most stunning sights for you to visit and snap your next picture in Morocco:

1. The Sahara Desert

No visit to Morocco is complete without a visit to the great Sahara Desert. Camel ride in and spend a starry night in a nomadic camp as you sip on some mint tea. You will marvel at the golden sand as the sun sets over the camp and the sky illuminates with constellations. Pack a flowy colorful scarf for a great shot as it dances in the wind around you. Here is a tip for capturing the perfect sunrise picture: set your alarm extra early so you have enough time to climb to the top of the massive sand dunes in the early morning. It is way more tiring than it looks!

2. Koutoubia Mosque

Located in Marrakech, the Koutoubia Mosque is a magnificent sight for all to see. While tourists are not allowed inside, you are allowed to admire the stunning outside as calls to prayers echo through the air multiple times a day. For the most spectacular views of this landmark, head to the gardens decorated with palm trees that are located behind the mosque. This is a great area for escaping crowds as well.

3.Sidi Kaouki

This beachside village may not offer many attractions but it does come equipped with adorable views. Check out the few surf shops and a couple of places to eat as you unwind and enjoy the scenery. Park yourself under an umbrella and take a nap on the beach next to the free-roaming beach camels. If you happen to visit during the winter months, head to the local nearby river for the chance to spot some wild flamingos!

4.The Royal Palace

Like the Koutoubia Mosque, visitors are not permitted inside the Royal Palace but are freely welcomed to spend time at the iconic golden doors on the outside. (Very popular photo op!) Located in Fes, expect to be impressed at the gorgeous architecture of the Royal Palace fit for royalty itself. Check out the bustling city of Fes with a guide for the best experience of the culture and history of the bustling Moroccan city. Tour guides love to utilize the lemon trees outside of the palace to demonstrate the cleaning properties of the fruit’s juice on the golden-colored doors.

5.Sidi Ifni

Located in the southwest of Morocco, Sidi Ifni is a small fishing town that is known for embracing its Spanish heritage as it was once a Spanish territory. Embrace the year-round warm weather and the upbeat friendly atmosphere. Escape to the beautiful beaches and enjoy a relaxing getaway from all of the hustle and bustle from Morocco’s larger cities.  Make sure to pack your sunscreen!

6. Ameln Valley

Hikers should head to Ameln Valley near Tafraoute for some gorgeous mountains to explore. The scenery itself puts it at the top of the list for most ‘instagrammable’ places in Morocco. Enjoy the peace and quiet as, like Sidi Ifni, Ameln Valley is a remote location compared to the larger surrounding cities.

7. Chefchaouen

You have most likely seen pictures of this stunning blue painted town before as it is one of the most photographed places in all of Morocco. Wander through the blue-painted streets with stunning mountain views. Blue was the chosen color since it represents peace. If you decide to visit, attempt to stay in one of the colorful guest houses in the blue medina for the ultimate Chefchaouen experience. Enjoy the laid back atmosphere and infinite photo opportunities. There are also hiking and places to swim nearby.

8. Rabat

Morocco’s capital city is a popular tourist destination for all. The city has two main districts to explore: the Old Town and New Town. Check out the Old Town for a busier and more historical vibe. Here you will find plenty of typical Moroccan souks with some amazing bargains. Tip: always remember to bargain the price down! Head to the New Town for some excellent restaurants and bars in which you can sit outside and enjoy the weather. The New Town also offers some great shopping.

9. Asilah

Popular amongst locals as well, Asilah is located along the beautiful coastline and has beautiful white-painted buildings complemented by colorful murals along the city walls. It is definitely a frequently overlooked gem of a city when planning one’s Moroccan trip. Try and plan your visit around the annual Moussem Culturel International d’Asilah festival! This festival is held throughout July and August every year and features the repainting of the murals on the medina walls.

10. Meknes

Check out this walled imperial city that served as Morocco’s capital in the 17th century. In comparison to Marrakech and Rabat, this city is very laid back and will provide you with a relaxing break from the larger cities if needed. Check out the gorgeous ruins of Volubilis which make up a partly excavated Berber city that is considered the ancient capital of the kingdom of Mauretania to many.
