#AdventureAtHome
Covid19 (Coronavirus) took us all by surprise, and in just a matter of months has completely reshaped our lives - mainly due to the social distancing and quarantine procedures that most countries around the world have implemented. I started out the year traveling and was able to complete 5 trips before the UN declared a state of emergency. When that happened, I knew it was time to go home. And it wasn’t easy.
Many people look at Covid19 as a setback, but I see it as a HUGE opportunity to reset our lives and plan for the future. I’ve made a list of all the things that I accomplished already this year, and reset my goals this month to have an even stronger April, May, and June. I would like to encourage each of you to do the same!
Don’t let this take the adventure out of you, instead, let’s find opportunities to create new adventures right in front of us! After all, isn’t home the place we spend the most time anyways?
With my 2+ week staycation, I have found many different ways to #AdventureAtHome. As Gal Gadot (aka Superwoman) said, “Staying at Home is my Superpower.”
Here are 10 things I’m doing every day during quarantine:
1. Wake up and get ready for the day
You might be asking why would you get ready if you aren’t leaving the house. Well, let me tell you something. When you wake up and try to stick to your morning routine, it makes you feel better. For me, my morning routine looks like going on a short jog, taking a shower, quickly doing my hair and makeup, and eating breakfast, before I start my workday. I also try to dress up sometimes, well when I say dress up, I mean wear more than just sweats. Whether that’s throwing on one of my favorite dresses or wearing jeans, I feel much more productive and awake as I go throughout my day when I get ready!
2. Get OUTSIDE (or near a window/balcony) and Move
It’s easy to feel a little stir-crazy when you are stuck in your house! The best way to combat that is to get OUTSIDE! You can do some yoga to stretch and relax your mind, or even take a quick 15-min yoga break as you work from home. Other options include doing a virtual fitness class, taking a walk or jog outside, or going on a hike. Every morning I wake up and do a 30-minute run before I start my work for the day. Being outside is POWERFUL if you can make sure you GET OUTSIDE
3. Cook Something Delicious
I don’t know about you, but I love food! When I travel to different places, one of my favorite things I get to experience is all the different types and flavors of food. Another thing you can do is replenish and reorganize your spice cabinet. Spices are packed full of antioxidants, can be used as natural medicines, so right now is the time to make sure you are eating healthy and flavorful meals.
We can’t travel to new countries right now, so why not cook from new countries and bring those flavors into our kitchen? Order Spices from Around the World and support artisans in need!
4. Be Inspired with Music & Dance
Music plays a huge role in my life, and I’m sure it does for most of you too. During the hustle of my everyday life, I find myself not having the time to enjoy music as I would like. But now that I am staying home (#quarantinelife), now is the perfect time to pull out my guitar and write some songs. Who knows, maybe I’ll start a TikTok account?
5. Learn Something New
With so much time on our hands, there hasn’t been a better time to do those things you’ve been putting off! Whether it’s learning a new skill, reading that book that’s been sitting on your shelf, or just listening to your favorite podcast as you spring clean your house.
6. Start a Business or Side Hobby
Did you know that some of the multi-billion dollar businesses that are around today were created after the 2008 recession? Slack, Airbnb, WhatsApp, Uber, just to name a few! Don’t be afraid to take the plunge, take the idea you’ve been constantly thinking about and start your own business. Or start taking courses to continue to grow your business, or so that you can eventually start your own business one day, like my Email Marketing 101 e-course!
7. Journal or Blog Your Experience
I mean, who can say they lived during a pandemic? I like to do both, write down my experiences as well as blog about them. Take some time to write down what you are grateful for first, positivity goes a long way during challenging times. If you need some inspiration, check out my blog at kyliechenn.com. Plus, how neat will it be when you look back 20 years from now and re-read all your experiences!
8. Decorate or Redesign Your House
Are you looking for a way to spruce up your house? After all, you are spending a lot of time in, so you should enjoy it! Now is a great time to decorate or redesign areas, tackle those side house projects, and find creative ways to make your home office feel more inspiring! Did you know that bringing beauty into your space is scientifically proven to increase creativity? My favorite decorations are African Baskets and plants! I fill my house with plants to help create a healthy environment and bring part of the outdoors inside. And if you get really bored, you can always take apart and put back together your furniture (just kidding)...
9. Practice a New Language (Or An Old One)
It’s been seven years since I lived in Portugal and it’s time for me to reconnect with the language, country, and the people I love. My Portuguese is a little rusty so I’m going to take advantage of this time and brush up on an old language. Plus, there are so many ways to refresh my skills with all the apps and online courses available!
10. Plan Your Next Trip
We all need something on our calendar to look forward to, especially during this time! Right now is a great time to purchase flights with airlines offering great deals and no change fees. I will be traveling to Svalbard, Tonga, Iceland, Uganda, and Cuba later this year and I already have my flights purchased and trips booked. With no change fees, there is no risk if the dates of your trip are pushed back. Give yourself something to look forward to! I promise it will help make this situation a little easier. Eat healthy, be active, and stay clean (i.e. wash those hands). There isn’t anything that should stop you from Adventuring, even when you are at home! Let’s make the best of things, I mean not everyone gets to say they’ve lived during a worldwide pandemic.
