Now, I might be a little biased seeing as June is my birthday month, but June is easily the best month of the year! The weather is starting to warm up, barbecue season is on, and school is ending for the summer, which means it’s time to TRAVEL! But there are literally 195 countries in the world, how can you possibly narrow down where to go? That’s why I’m here! I’ve done the first part of the research for you, and have narrowed down 10 of the best places to visit in June!
Fiji - During my research for finding the best destinations to visit in June, Fiji made almost every list, and for good reason! While Fiji is a year-round vacation spot, many companies and blogs recommend visiting during June. Not only is the tropical weather perfect for beach days, there are also tons of activities you can do, such as snorkeling, kayaking, hiking, or taking a relaxing day cruise! Best of all, the tourist crowds are smaller this time of year, which means that hotels and tour companies will have great deals to allow you to maximize your dollar! I’m going to stop raving about Fiji now, because I know you’re already looking at flights;)
Gorilla Trekking, Uganda - If you like wildlife watching and hiking through the East African jungle, June is the perfect time to go on a gorilla trek in Uganda! During the wet season, it can get quite cloudy in the mountains, making it difficult to look for wildlife. June to September is Uganda’s dry season, and it’s a great time to spot gorillas! The weather is warm but not unbearable in June, with a low of 62°F and a high of 79°F. We recommend booking your tours ahead of time, as spots tend to fill up quickly during the dry season!
Tuscany, Italy - During the month of June, the Tuscany region is an absolutely amazing place to visit! The weather will be nice, as the sweltering summer heat doesn’t arrive until later, and the crowds will be small since most tourists visit between July and August. Your Italian vacation will be filled with art, culture, wine, and some of the best pasta you will ever taste. Sounds like a dream, right? Make sure to take some time to head out of the city to explore the Tuscan countryside too. Trust me, you won’t regret it!
Budapest, Hungary - During June, Hungary’s capital city is THE place to be! There’s plenty of ruin bars to visit, you can cruise down the Danube, or spend a day at one of the thermal bath houses. But, you can also attend the Budapest Beer Festival or the Danube Folk Carnival, both of which are held in June! As an added bonus, Budapest also holds an annual Nights of Museums Festival in June, which offers museums entry fees at a discounted rate for one night only! Acanela Expeditions offers two trips to this awesome city: Venice to Budapest, and Budapest to Berlin!
New York City - Let’s be honest, there’s really no such thing as a bad time to visit New York City. However, many would say that the BEST time to visit the Big Apple is June! The weather is lovely, making this a perfect time for dining outside. Many tourists don’t start arriving until July and August, so there are way less crowds. Central Park is always full of activity during this time of year, and this is also a great time to visit a rooftop bar, and take in the stunning sunset over the city!
Machu Picchu, Peru - June in Peru is the start of the dry season, so it is a perfect time to explore Machu Picchu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. If you enjoy hiking, you could also hike the Inca Trail, a bucket list-worthy adventure! There is a three-hour train ride from Cusco to Machu Picchu, and then you spend the whole day there! Here’s a hint, try to go earlier in the morning before the crowds arrive to have the whole site to yourself!
Napa Valley, California - Head to the famous wine region in Northern California during the month of June, and you’ll have the opportunity to take advantage of the warm weather, and smaller crowds since many tourists prefer to visit during the harvest, from August to October. There are plenty of amazing wineries to stop at for a tasting, or just to take in the stunning views of the vineyards. Plan on visiting more than one winery? We recommend curating a day trip aboard the Napa Valley Wine Train!
Jaguars of the Pantanal, Brazil - June is one of the best times of the year to view jaguars in their natural habitat of the Pantanal region in Brazil! June to October is the dry season of this area, making it an optimal time for wildlife viewing. As with any form of wildlife viewing, we ask travellers to keep their distance from the animals, for your safety and theirs. Although jaguars in this area are used to seeing humans, these are still wild animals that can react unexpectedly if they feel scared or threatened.
Corsica, France - This beautiful Mediterranean island will be warm and sunny the entire month of June! You can hike around the island, visit amazing vineyards, or simply spend your entire day at one of the otherworldly beaches. Really, you can’t go wrong with a French island with an Italian flair, crystal-blue waters, and an invigorating scent from the aromatic Maquis plant that you can even smell once you’re offshore!
Greenland - I saved one of the best destinations for last. Greenland is the ultimate edge-of-the-world expedition. With UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Viking ruins, and small Saqqaq villages to explore, you could easily spend the entire month of June here with something new to do everyday! The June weather is cool but clear, allowing visitors to see for miles, from towns, to fjords, and all the way up to the mountains. Trust me when I say, Greenland in June NEEDS to be on your bucket list.
