Day 1: Puno, Peru

Welcome to beautiful Peru, centered in the Andes Mountains and home to UNESCO-recognized and world-famous Machu Picchu. Whether you’re here to hike some of the world’s highest peaks, experience a traditional llama blessing, or dive into the Amazon rainforest, this country is the perfect getaway.

Upon arrival, you may proceed to the hotel and check in. You'll spend the evening relaxing or, if you're ready to begin exploring, finding your way around Puno.

Day 2: Puno, Peru

Depart from the hostel via bus to visit Lake Titicaca and tour the Peruvian side of the lake. You'll eplore the islands and floating villages that dot the lake and learn about the local culture, people, and way of life.

Later, you'll transfer back to the hostel and rest up for a while. In the evening, we recommend setting out on a nighttime adventure in the stunning city of Puno.

Day 3: Puno - Cusco, Peru

In the morning, you'll transfer by private bus to Cusco, the gateway to Machu Picchu. Along the way, you'll make stops at historical and cultural sites that were important to the Incas.

Upon arriving in Cusco, you'll have free time to explore the city and take in its natural beauty and culture. Surrounded by the breathtaking Andes, this picturesque city was once the capital of the Inca Empire, and it holds a rich history that’s still palpable today. You'll ejoy some free time in the afternoon to relax or head into the city for a little more self-conducted exploring.

Day 4: Cusco - Machu Picchu, Peru

We’ll meet as a group in the hotel lobby with our guide before taking the train to Aguas Calientes at the base of Machu Picchu.

After fueling up with a delicious lunch, we’ll depart on a picturesque train ride, passing dramatic canyons and rushing rivers before arriving at the base of the famous Machu Picchu. We’ll have some downtime to settle into our hotel and freshen up before dinner.

Day 5: Machu Picchu, Peru

Before sunrise, we’ll meet as a group in the hotel lobby with our guide, then line up to take the bus to Machu Picchu. We’ll arrive in time to witness the sun crest over the mountains, bathing them in warm, morning light. Explore the ruins with your guide and take in their colossal majesty before the larger crowds appear. After we’ve taken countless photos, befriended the famous roaming llamas and alpacas, and enjoyed a history lesson about the significance of this ancient city, we’ll head back down to Aguas Calientes as a group by bus.

You'll spend the afternoon soaking in the city of Aguas Calientes at your leisure.

Day 6: Sacred Valley, Peru

After breakfast, you will be able to spend the morning on your own exploring the Sacred Valley.

You can browse the artisan shops, stroll down narrow cobblestone lanes, and get to know the local people. Whatever you do, be sure to enjoy the incredible scenery and rich culture around you. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant or back at the hotel.

Day 7: Sacred Valley - USA

You'll start off the day meeting your guide in hotel reception for the return trip to Cusco. There’ll be plenty of adventure along the way, and we’ll stop at the lively city of Pisac — famous for its expansive textile market and Inca ruins. The market is an explosion of color and a favorite destination of many travelers; the stalls are overflowing with colorful handicrafts, and it’s the perfect place to pick up a souvenir. The Inca ruins are remarkable too. The fortress sits atop a hill, with agricultural terraces carved into the hillside. It’s believed these ruins were once responsible for guarding the southern entrance to the Sacred Valley.

After lunch, you'll make your way to the airport, where you will catch your flight back home — unless you opt for our Cusco to Lima extension.

+ When is the best time to visit Peru?

The winter (May – September) is the driest season and therefore the best time of year to travel, especially since you'll visit Cusco and explore Machu Picchu on this trip. The summer (December – March) is warmer, but it's also the wettest season, when you'll experience frequent heavy showers. For more information, please see our blog article on when to travel to Peru.

+ What vaccinations should I get before my trip?

It's important that you receive the most accurate and up-to-date travel health information before departing for South America.
