see more details >

Breakfast: Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before your early morning pick up! Be sure to wake up early enough as today marks day 1 of your Iceland tour with our partner organization.

Morning: We will start bright and early this morning (Pick up at 8-8:30 am) and head out on a journey through Iceland’s famous Golden Circle—an area teeming with Iceland’s must-see spots. From natural beauty to places of historical and cultural significance, enjoy your first magical day in Iceland!

The Golden Circle includes Þingvellir National Park where Icelanders founded their parliament in the year 930 A.D., the oldest parliament in the world. Þingvellir National Park is recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for its geological and historical significance and attracts thousands of visitors each year. The Golden Circle portion of the tour also features Geysir, the spouting hot springs and Gullfoss waterfall. While visiting Geysir, be sure to hike the hill to get an aerial view of the water jettisons (which occur every few minutes).

Afternoon: The group will stop for lunch (own expense), before driving to the beautiful South Coast. We will stop at the scenic Skógafoss, where water crashes down over the sea cliffs. Watch out for rainbows – the incredible spray from this waterfall makes it an ideal spot to catch one or even two at a time! We will also visit the famous waterfall Seljalandsfoss, where the adventurous can actually hike behind the roaring falls for an incredible vantage point.

Dinner: After that, we will make our way to a country hotel near the charming village of Vík, where the group will have the opportunity to get dinner and rest for the night.

Accommodation: Hotel Dyrhólaey or similar

Day 2: VÍK - SKAFTAFELL - GLACIER LAGOON - HÖFN
see more details >

Breakfast: Fuel up with a hearty buffet breakfast to prepare for our adventurous day.

Morning: Breakfast will be served at the hotel before the group gathers their things for the next day of adventure. Our journey will continue along the South coast in the direction of Skaftafell and Vatnajökull National Park. The group will explore the atmospheric Reynisfjara black sand beach with the incredible Reynisdrangar peaks and visit the basalt column cave, the former island Dyrhólaey. Be sure to bring a camera as the towering basalt columns are an incredible photo opportunity.

After visiting the famous black sand beaches, we will pass the great lava fields of Eldhraun. As we pass through this volcanic area, you will see the results of previous volcanic eruptions as we drive across thelava fields to Skaftafell in Vatnajökull National Park.

Lunch: Skaftafell is a true oasis, with green birch forests and lush vegetation, a jewel in the center of the rough black sand desert. The group will break for lunch.

Afternoon: At Skaftafell we will take a three-hour glacier hike, guided by our specialist glacier guide, on an outlet glacier of Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Europe. The hike will not be difficult, but be careful not to slip along the icy path! Our group will then explore the scenic Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon where you can expect to see floating icebergs and spot the occasional frolicking seal. Gaze in wonder at the magical iceberg filled lagoon and visit the famous Diamond Beach, where its coal black sands peppered with the glittering crystal, blue/white icebergs which have washed ashore. This is an iconic spot as several films including some of the original James Bond movies were shot here.

Evening: Our accommodation is nestled in the small seaside town of Höfn, which is known as the lobster capital of Iceland. Upon arrival at the accommodation, the group will get dinner before retiring for the evening in this pleasant seaside town.

Accommodation: Höfn Inn or similar

Day 3: EAST FJORDS - DJÚPIVOGUR - EGILSSTAÐIR
see more details >

Breakfast: Fuel up with a hearty buffet breakfast to prepare for our adventurous day.

Morning: You will be served breakfast before the group sets out for the day to explore the Eastern coast of Iceland. This region of the country has few visitors, as most travelers never venture beyond the glacier lagoon. You’ll begin the day traveling by car through the East Fjords.

As we continue our route along the easternmost coast of Iceland, we will see the East Fjords of Iceland. As you pass by little towns, such as Djúpivogur and Egilsstadir, you’ll get a taste of what local life in Iceland is truly like. Savor traditional food and alluring sights as you continue your journey through the East Fjords. Our group will make its way along the coastline, driving some narrow roads around Hvalnes, a very beautiful and remote peninsula, and the stretch around the Þvottárskriður landslides between Lóns and Álftafjarðar.

Afternoon: The group will stop for lunch at Djúpivogur, a small traditional Icelandic fishing village, before continuing our journey. Djúpivogur is home to a unique outdoor sculpture called Eggin í Gleðivík (“The Eggs of Merry Bay”), and is a quaint town to explore in your downtime.

Evening: Travel to Egilsstaðir to have dinner in the evening and unwind with a soak in the electric blue Myvatn Nature Baths (additional cost). In Icelandic these nature baths are called Jarðbóðin which refers to the water flowing straight up out of the ground. Bathe in the mineral rich alkaline water (36 – 40 C) or take a stroll and enjoy the exceptional views.

Accommodation: Skjöldólfsstadir Guesthouse or Similar

Day 4: DETTIFOSS - MÝVATN - GOÐAFOSS - AKUREYRI
see more details >

Morning: Fuel up with an early breakfast before you continue the adventure. You’ll pass through the barren wasteland of Mödrudalsöraefi. In this area of isolation, the only view is mountains rising on the horizon. Eventually the path will lead to one of Iceland’s ultimate destinations—Dettifoss waterfall, the most powerful waterfall in all of Europe.

From there we continue towards the nature reserve surrounding Lake Myvatn. Explore the mystical landscapes around the lake at Mývatn and head to the steaming lunar landscapes of the Námaskarð geothermal area. See boiling hot springs, steaming fumaroles and technicolor bubbling mud pots. These are all incredible sights to behold, but our group will be in for a special treat as we see the Hverfjall crater and the amazing Dimmuborgir formations known as the ‘Dark Castles’. The Hverfjall crater was formed by a massive volcanic eruption 2,500 years ago, and created large arching lava structures that tower overhead.

Afternoon: Continue on towards the wide and dreamy crescent-shaped waterfall, Godafoss, known as the Waterfall of the Gods and one of the most magical places in all of Iceland. Spend the afternoon warming up at a local coffee shop, with some traditional Icelandic sweets.

Evening: By nightfall you’ll reach Eyjafjördur in Akureyri—your next destination and Iceland's second largest city.

Accommodation: Dalvík Guesthouse or similar

Day 5: WHALES IN DALVÍK - SIGLUFJÖRÐUR -TRÖLLASKAGI - BIFRÖST
see more details >

Morning: After breakfast, we will take in the beautiful scenery along Eyjafjörður (the Island Fjord) on the way to the little fishing town of Dalvík. Our group will disembark the tour bus to board your optional adventure to join our whale watching boat from a traditional Icelandic work harbor. The boat ride will last approximately three hours. You will have the opportunity to take in the wonders of the sea life including humpback whales, white-beaked dolphins, minke whales, and sometimes even a majestic blue whale. If fishing interests you, give sea angling a try and taste whatever you catch. (Optional Add-on/additional cost- Rhib Speed Boat).

Afternoon: Next we will drive to Siglufjörður, a charming fishing village with a rich history. Siglufjörður in the early 20th century had a gold rush-like atmosphere when the remote community became the fishing capital of the Atlantic. We will continue along Tröllaskagi (the Troll Peninsula) and will take in some of the best ocean scenery and skiing areas in Iceland. The small villages on the peninsula will give you insight into what living in one of the most remote parts of Iceland is like as you take in the beautiful scenery. Continue to explore Bifröst, a small university centered community.

Evening: Afterwards, you’ll travel through many small villages, including Hvammstangi—one of the best places for seal watching. As you venture further into the Western Fjords, you’ll be treated to even more stunning views; and if the weather allows it, you may even catch a glimpse of the magical northern lights.

Accomodation: Hótel Laugarbakki or similar

Day 6: BORGARFJÖRÐUR - REYKHOLT - HRAUNFOSSAR - HVALFJÖRÐUR - REYKJAVÍK
see more details >

Morning: Wake up early to bask in the mystical sunrise over the Borgarfjördur area—a location popular with photographers due to its impressive hot springs and waterfalls, such as Hraunfossar and Barnafossar. Borgarfjörður has many splendid sights and we will focus on these today. We stop at Deildartunguhver hot spring, the legendary waterfall, Barnafoss, (the Children´s Waterfall), and the Hraunfossar cascade, the atmospheric very low and wide falls where the water emerges, literally straight out of the lava field.

You’ll have the opportunity to hike up to Grábrók, a volcano crater, before heading to the sea cliffs and strolling through the sleepy coastal villages famous for their geology, trade history, geography and wildlife.
